A Wonderful Day in Stawell: Bubsie Brings the Community Together
Setting Up Camp
Our adventure today brought us from Horsham to the welcoming town of Stawell. After arriving, we made our way to the old Seventh-day Adventist Church property to set up our caravans and get the fridges running. We were greeted by Gary, a friendly member of the church, who kindly showed us around—pointing out the facilities and helping us get connected to power.
With camp established, we headed into the heart of town where the new church sits right on the main street. Time to introduce Bubsie to Stawell! We unloaded our beloved trailer and set up shop in the car park right in front of the church.
A Beautiful Day with Beautiful People
What a glorious day it turned out to be! The sun was shining brilliantly, and the people of Stawell came out to meet Bubsie. We were thrilled to welcome members from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, but the warmth didn’t stop there. People from the Anglican, Lutheran, Salvation Army, and Uniting churches also stopped by—many had heard about us at their combined church service on Sunday, and others had seen the announcement in Friday’s local paper.
Making Every Moment Count
In a delightful stroke of luck, we discovered we’d set up right across from a Laundromat. Never ones to waste an opportunity, Glenda and Veronica dashed back to fetch the washing from the caravans. Between cycles, they chatted with visitors at the trailer, making the most of every moment. When Kevin took a quick break to fix a caravan light, he played courier and returned the fresh, clean clothes to the caravans.
From Lunch Rush to After-School Buzz
We enjoyed our lunch as the steady stream of community visitors continued. When the school bell rang, students started arriving, curious and energetic. Right at 5 o’clock, as the town’s clocktower chimed, we closed the trailer door for the day.
Gary had joined us at the trailer, and together with Julie, we gathered for prayer. What a blessing they were! Both Gary and Julie had stayed with us throughout the entire day, chatting with visitors, and spoiling us with drinks and refreshments.
A Perfect Ending
We made our way back to the old church property where Julie’s homemade savoury dish and cake awaited us for dinner. As we sat together enjoying her delicious cooking, we reflected on what had truly been a great day—filled with sunshine, community, and the joy of sharing our faith with open hearts.
Here’s to Stawell and its wonderful people!
