An Unforgettable Day at the Devonport Motor Show
An Early Start and a Grand Entrance
It was an early rise this morning! We headed straight to Devonport Oval to park the car and trailer, unload Bubsie, and make sure we had everything we needed for what promised to be a big day. The A-frame sign was carefully tied to Bubsie’s roof, ready to be transported to the display area at Aikenhead Park.
Once everything was loaded up, we drove to the entry point and waited in the side street alongside the other display vehicles, buzzing with anticipation. When the gates opened, we joined the line of vehicles being directed into their positions — what a sight that must have been!
A Featured Vehicle Among Legends
We were thrilled to learn that Bubsie had been designated as a featured vehicle for the show! We were positioned behind a white pavilion housing a number of stunning show vehicles, parked alongside some truly beautiful pieces of history — a 1929 Nash and a magnificent 1925 Bean 14 Tourer. What wonderful neighbours to have for the day!
Record-Breaking History All Around
The conversations throughout the morning were rich and fascinating. We had the privilege of chatting with the owner and restorer of an incredible 1913 Car-Nation Torpedo — just one of the remarkable stories on display. In total, over 750 vehicles were showcased at this year’s event, making it the largest display in the show’s proud 20-year history. What a milestone to be a part of!
On Air with Kevin!
Around lunchtime, the PA Announcer made his way over to our display to interview Kevin about Bubsie — a lovely moment that added a special touch to an already wonderful day!
Giving, Connecting & Making a Difference
Throughout the day we were kept wonderfully busy giving out The Overlander booklet and other resources. By the end of the day we had handed out over 300 books — what a blessing! We simply could not have managed without the incredible support of the team of volunteers from the local church, who gave so generously of their time and energy. A heartfelt thank you to each and every one of them!
A Special Reunion
One of the most touching moments of the day came when we were delighted to meet David — the man who had carried out the restoration of the original Bubsie for the National Museum in Canberra an incredible 25 years ago. What a joy it was to connect with someone so deeply woven into Bubsie’s own story!
A Day to Remember
Even a couple of light showers passing over during the day couldn’t dampen our spirits — and Bubsie handled the moisture like the trooper she is! After 3:00 pm we packed everything back into Bubsie, drove back to the Oval to reload the trailer, and made our way back to our base at the Devonport Campground, tired but absolutely full of joy.
It was a truly wonderful and successful day — for the Devonport Motor Show and for our display too.
We feel so grateful for every conversation, every book given out, and every new connection made. Blessed beyond words!
