Right Around Australia – Bickley Community Day

Weather Challenges and Solutions
Warren arrived early at the Bickley community church to position Bubsie before the program began. After a night of steady rain, some sunny periods encouraged us to set up on the lawn with the gazebo. However, by 11 am, the cold and rain returned, prompting us to move Bubsie inside the hall where visitors could view the car in comfort.

Musical Community Program
The morning program commenced at 10:30 am, featuring beautiful music from the Carmel College string orchestra. Kevin led the children’s segment, followed by Garry Kent delivering the main presentation to the gathered community.

Hospitality and Sharing
The local ladies provided a delicious lunch, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Following the meal, our team spent thirty minutes sharing stories and updates from the current journey around Australia.

Youth Group Activities
The local youth club was meeting, and our team members participated as a “living library” for four different groups. These young people then worked on various elements related to their Australian journey project, creating storylines that will be compiled on a large canvas map of Australia.

Historical Research Connections
Gary Kent interviewed Janelle, a historian from Carmel College, who had researched the archives for information about Nevill and Greg, key figures in Bubsie’s history. This research helps preserve important details about the car’s original story.

Family Connections
Relatives of both Nevill and Greg visited during the day, speaking with Gary and adding personal insights to the historical record. These family connections bring depth and authenticity to Bubsie’s story.

Workshop Interview
Gary has arranged to interview Warren about Bubsie’s restoration process, choosing the Carmel workshop as the setting for this important documentation of the car’s rebirth.

A Full and Rewarding Day
Despite the weather challenges, the day proved both busy and deeply rewarding, combining community fellowship, youth education, historical research, and family connections—all centred around Bubsie’s remarkable story.
