A Precious Pause | WA

Thursday – Saturday: 1-3 January

An Unforgettable New Year’s Morning
What a way to wake up on New Year’s Day! The sound of fire engines and helicopters filled the air as a fire had broken out just after midnight. Our hearts went out to those in the evacuation zones about 3 km away, and our prayers immediately lifted them up, asking for protection and peace. We breathed prayers of thanksgiving that we were safe while continuing to hold those affected close in our hearts. Even in moments like these, we’re reminded of how precious each day truly is.

Saying “See You Soon”
The time came for those tender farewells that tug at the heartstrings. Shane, Alison, and Jared embarked on their journey back to SA, and we hugged them tight before they left. Cynthia and Joe treasured every remaining moment with Warren and Desiree before everyone departed on Friday, each heading off to embrace their own beloved family and friends. There’s something so beautiful about watching people you care for go off to love on others—it’s the ripple effect of connection and community.

A Gentle Rhythm of Rest
These three glorious days of rest were such a gift! While we absolutely love what we do, having this breathing space allowed us to tend to the practical necessities of life on the road. Our faithful RAA gazebo bag needed some loving repair, and we were grateful for the time to care for it properly. We also tackled some personal duties—those less glamorous but necessary tasks that keep everything running smoothly.
After nearly a year of this beautiful adventure, some of our clothes have become well-loved travelers themselves, showing the wear of our journey! A shopping trip helped us refresh our wardrobe, and we finally found a wonderful hairdresser to work some magic on our increasingly untamed hair. With temperatures soaring and predictions of 40-degree days ahead, we wanted to be ready for whatever comes next on Sunday when we continue our journey.

A Homecoming of the Heart
The Sabbath brought a quiet sweetness to our souls. For the first time since beginning this ministry adventure, we were able to simply rest and worship.
Kevin and Glenda made their way to the Fremantle church, and the reunion with dear friends was absolutely heartwarming. But here’s what made it truly extraordinary: they hadn’t set foot in that church since their wedding day—53 years ago! Walking through those doors again, hand in hand, their hearts overflowing with gratitude for a lifetime of love and partnership… well, there simply aren’t adequate words.
The afternoon took them back to the War Memorial Gardens in Fremantle, where they had stood as starry-eyed newlyweds for their wedding photographs all those years ago. The beloved “Fremantle Doctor”—that refreshing sea breeze—embraced them like an old friend, keeping them blissfully comfortable as they reminisced and dreamed together.
Warren and Desiree spent their morning at the Maida Vale church, which had prepared a beautiful special program to welcome the New Year. What made it even more meaningful was having Desiree’s dear uncle worship alongside them—family, faith, and fellowship all woven together.

The Journey Continues
Tomorrow, we’re back on the road, and our hearts are full! This ministry we’ve been called to is such a joy, and we can’t wait to see what beautiful moments and connections await us in this fresh new year.
