Aged Care Memories and Community Connections
Scenic Journey to Maclean Aged Care Display
Our 7:25 am departure from Lismore treated us to a picturesque drive through rolling countryside to Gulmarrad, where we parked our caravans before backtracking to the aged care home in Maclean. The facility staff greeted us warmly and directed us to the perfect setup spot at the front of the building.
Precious Moments and Treasured Memories
Residents emerged in small groups, gathering around Bubsie with eyes that held decades of automotive history. The Lifestyle Coordinator captured precious moments as residents posed with the century-old car, while everyone received a copy of The Overlander.
The stories were pure gold. One elderly lady’s face lit up as Bubsie reminded her of her childhood neighbour’s car – how that generous neighbour would invite local children for rides, creating magical adventures in simpler times. These connections between past and present are exactly why Bubsie’s journey matters, unlocking treasured memories and bringing smiles to faces that have witnessed so much of life’s journey.

RSL Carpark Display
After packing up from the aged care home, we moved to the Maclean Service Club carpark for our afternoon display. Media coverage was already working its magic – people stopped to investigate before we’d even finished setting up, having spotted Bubsie on the news.
We staggered lunch breaks to maintain continuous visitor engagement throughout what proved to be hectic periods. The lovely weather certainly helped create the perfect afternoon atmosphere for car enthusiasts and curious community members alike.
Special thanks to Pam and Pastor Adam for their invaluable support today, helping us connect with local people and share Bubsie’s story throughout both venues. Local connections make all the difference in creating meaningful community engagement!
