Lunch with Gary: A Day of Faith, Community, and Connection at Avondale University
Bubsie Arrives on Campus
We pulled onto the lovely lawns of Avondale University and positioned Bubsie prominently, ready to capture attention. The campus was buzzing with activity—university students were enjoying brunch in the open air cafeteria while preparations were underway inside for the main Lunch with Gary event.
As people began arriving for the 10 am start, they couldn’t resist stopping by to chat and admire the iconic car. Dog walkers passed by and eagerly received copies of The Overlander. Students drifted over between classes, snapping photos and taking QR codes to explore more about our journey. Bubsie had become an instant conversation starter.
Gary’s Inspiring Talk
When Gary’s presentation on communications got underway, some of us headed inside to listen to his insightful talk. Meanwhile, Henk took on the important role of staying with the car, ensuring our traveling companion was well cared for. Kevin arrived and was graciously asked to serve as MC for the day—a role he embraced with enthusiasm.
Inside, we gathered around tables laden with a delicious menu from the 7 @ Avondale Cafeteria. Over good food and great conversation, we settled in for what would become a truly special afternoon.
Stories That Came Alive
After lunch and a beautiful musical interlude from Cybele Craig, it was time for the heart of the day: the Bubsie team shared our stories from this year’s incredible journey around Australia. Kevin led the session, inviting team members to step up and share their experiences.
We had so much to tell—and we couldn’t help but be animated about it! Our passion for the journey spilled over as we talked about the communities we’ve visited and the remarkable ways God has blessed our travels and continues to work in people’s lives. The energy in the room was infectious, and you could feel the genuine excitement and gratitude we carry for this ministry.
A Perfect Close
As the event wrapped up, people lined up to talk with us, take photos with Bubsie, and connect more deeply with our mission. It was a day filled with inspiration, meaningful conversation, and the kind of community connection that reminds us why we do this.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the wonderful staff and dedicated volunteers of The Incredible Journey Ministry for making this day so special and for their unwavering support of our mission.
