Church Family Fun Day | Gosford NSW

We started the third week of Bubsie’s Odyssey, with the drive down to Gosford to set up for the family fun day at the church complex in Narara. We arrived just as the Pinnacle, a high ropes course, was setting up their display for the day. Luke Reeves, a qualified ropes course facilitator happened to be in Newcastle for another appointment and had willingly come down to assist the team in setting up, seeing the person who usually does it was away. Thanks heaps Luke, for your time and expertise. It was much appreciated, and we are always encouraged when we see the hand of God at work in providing the personnel needed at the right place and time.

The first thing we needed to do, was to move the trailer from its parking space overnight to the grassed area at the front of the church property, so the carpark would be free for setting up the various displays. Having accomplished that, we gave Bubsie’s battery a bit of a boost, so that we could get her running and moved her to the area they had designated for the display. She had the lower part of the carpark to do some circuits during the day.

We set up the gazebo for some shade and put out the resource table. The church team met with all the people working on displays for a time of prayer before we all became busy assisting with various set-ups around the carpark. The food team moved into gear, setting up the food aisle under the covered area. We assisted in setting up one of the inflatable play areas for the children and unloading the trailer with the jumping castle.

By 10.00 a.m., all was in readiness for the start of the event as community people came to enjoy the events of the day. We enjoyed sharing the story with folk and assisting them to get pictures of themselves with the tribute vehicle. Once again, a few car enthusiasts had also brought their restored vehicles to display, including Paul, the former owner of Bubsie, before her restoration. He brought one of his Citroens to display and was delighted to take Bubsie for a spin around the circuit and try her out.

During the morning Radio Rhema also did an interview with the Incredible Journey team about the Right Around Australia project. The weather was perfect for the day’s activities and the sausage sizzle, hot chips, yummy nachos and other food stalls gave folks a good variety of lunch options to choose from. The jumping castle and inflatable play area kept the children well-occupied in burning up their excess energy. The Pinnacle provided a challenge that increases confidence and tests determination to attempt things that may seem difficult but can be achieved one step at a time.

That is a similar challenge to that faced by Nevill Westwood and Greg Davies as they set out to accomplish a mission 100 years ago that would have been daunting to them. Entering the isolated outback regions back then to bring hope was no easy mission, but it was achieved one day at a time, with each spin of Bubsie’s wheels, each puncture repaired and each step that they took. Their mission can be ours too, as we share hope in a world that is increasingly challenging. It is accomplished one day at a time with our hands in God’s hands, and He promises to never leave us nor forsake us.

The day was a great success, and we thank Gosford Church for organising the centenary celebration, helping to tell the story of what can be accomplished when we determine to do things for God. Thank you for your hospitality, the opportunity to share this great moment in Australian motoring history, and the wonderful time we had meeting new people and hearing their stories, too.
