Engaging the Community in Harvey
Warm Welcome in Harvey
We arrived in Harvey at 9 AM, greeted by Dianne and Graham, along with other church members who had done extensive preparation for our visit. This showed in the large number of interested people who attended the event.
Media Engagement
Roger went to the local FM radio station and did a live broadcast, and later in the day, Warren was interviewed for the local newspaper. The DJ from the radio station also came and told us he had just completed a 17,500 km trip around Australia in an electric car.
Engaging with the Local School
The local primary school scheduled all 250 of their students to come in class groups and see the car. Veronica and Roger were kept busy giving talks and answering the students’ thoughtful and well-researched questions, as a result of the teachers providing preliminary information.
Connecting with a Car Enthusiast
On our way back to the vans, we visited the museum of a car enthusiast named Paul, a retired man with a lot of memorabilia from his working life as a shearer. He had restored Austin Sevens, and the team members compared the motor with Bubsie. Paul was extremely grateful that we had taken the time to visit his museum, even calling us on the way back to thank us a second time.
Successful Day
Overall, it was a successful day, with the community in Harvey warmly welcoming us and engaging with the Bubsie display and the team’s presentations.
