Murray Bridge: Shopping Centre Heat and Team Farewells

Early Morning Journey and Fuel Stop Conversations
Our pre-7 am departure from Keith set the pace for an efficient travel day. The Tintinara refuelling stop provided an unexpected opportunity – sharing Bubsie’s story with the fuel attendant, proving that even routine stops create connection moments. We arrived safely at Murray Bridge, where Don and Ruth Wanke welcomed us as we positioned our caravans before heading to Drakes Shopping Complex.

Immediate Interest Despite Extreme Heat
Setting up at Drakes brought instant visitor engagement, with curious shoppers stopping to examine the vintage car. The day’s extreme heat – temperatures climbing well into the 40s – required strategic team rotation to maintain continuous display coverage while keeping everyone safe and hydrated.

Fluctuating Foot Traffic and Persistent Engagement
Local supporters provided encouraging visits throughout the day while regular shoppers stopped during grocery runs. The post-lunch lull proved temporary as afternoon interest rebounded despite scorching temperatures. These dedicated visitors who braved the heat demonstrated genuine enthusiasm for Bubsie’s story.

Manager Appreciation and Bittersweet Farewells
At 2:30 pm, we began packing up, taking time to thank the Drakes manager for hosting our display. The afternoon brought emotional farewells as Veronica, Pieter, and Dennis departed by 3:15 pm for the Riverland. Glenda and Kevin expressed heartfelt gratitude for their invaluable contributions throughout this journey leg.

Practical Maintenance and Cool Planning
Kevin and Glenda tackled essential maintenance, replacing the seized caravan jockey wheel – an opportunity that led to another story-sharing moment with the store attendant. Finding an air-conditioned space provided perfect refuge for planning upcoming weeks while escaping the oppressive heat.

Evening Service Preparation
Bubsie’s delivery to the farm for evening service ensured mechanical readiness for continuing adventures.

*Even 40-degree heat can’t diminish the enthusiasm of true car lovers! When Bubsie visits your community, expect engaging displays that bring people together regardless of weather challenges
