Community BBQ & Display | Warrawong NSW
During this trip, we have been claiming the promise of Isaiah 40:29 – 31 for ourselves: “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted, but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
It was nice to have no pressing commitments on Friday morning and to eat breakfast a little later than we had over the last week. We woke up after a good night’s sleep and felt refreshed. We were able to spend the morning working on some of the planning for the weeks ahead and catch up on some of the reports from the last week. We experienced the fulfilment of the promise claimed.
The men were able to do a quick trip around the venues we will visit over the weekend and ascertain where to unload and place the displays so that there would not be too much disruption to traffic with unloading the car.
In the afternoon, we made our way to the venue for the evening, which was a grassed island in the middle of a housing subdivision, where children and youth of the area often play on the grass and is a general community meeting place. The Warrawong church plant group have been running a food hub there every Thursday evening for some time and had scheduled the visit for the week to the Friday evening to display Bubsie.
As we arrived and unloaded Bubsie, people from the community came out to greet us and to assist in putting up the gazebo and carrying supplies. It was raining a little bit, but everyone worked well, and we were soon set up, and folk could take a bit of shelter under the gazebo. The food hub van arrived to set up the BBQ and the food distribution tables for the evening and the tables and chairs where people could sit and eat the free evening meal.
We had a great time talking with the community folk as the kids played on the remainder of the grassed area or demonstrated their cart-wheeling expertise on the grass. After most of the people had eaten, they gathered around while Kevin shared the story of Nevill and Greg’s journey. They were all given sample bags with the sharing book and advertisements for programs to be run in the yacht club just around the corner in the next week.
We met some lovely people and appreciated hearing of their experiences and sharing ours with them. What a great little community they have become: from one that had been quite rough and with social problems in the past to a cohesive group of people who care for one another.
We enjoyed our interaction with them and hope that they too, were blessed by our visit.
