A Day of Filming with Bubsie

Early Morning Hustle
We hit the road at 6:15 am—yes, that’s early—determined to reach Sydney Adventist Hospital by 6:45 to catch security before they closed the bollards. The plan was ambitious: film on the hospital’s front lawn before the day got away from us. Gary and Robyn Kent arrived right on schedule at 7:00 am, bringing Torsten and Dorothy fresh off the train.

Rolling at the Hospital
With Bubsie unloaded and the cameras ready to roll, Torsten got straight to work setting up while Gary and Dorothy hunted for extras. Unfortunately, finding volunteers among staff coming off the night shift proved trickier than expected. No problem—we improvised. A few of us stepped in front of the cameras, and we managed to recruit two additional helpers from curious onlookers.
By 8:00 am, Torsten was ready to shoot. After a couple of takes, we packed up Bubsie and headed for our next location.

The Perfect Sydney Backdrop
Kirribilli Point was absolutely packed with school buses on excursion, so Gary had scouted ahead to Henry Lawson Reserve and given us the all-clear. We regrouped there instead, and it turned out to be the ideal spot. The city skyline, Harbour Bridge, and Opera House created a stunning backdrop, and the cloud cover was perfect for filming—not too bright, not too dim.The footage came together beautifully. Better yet, people who spotted us filming were curious about Bubsie, and we got to hand out a few books and chat about the project with interested passersby.

Wrap and Return
By 10:30 am, we had everything we needed. After a quick fuel stop, we headed back to our Galston base with a successful shoot under our belts and plenty of great material in the can. It was a good and successful day.
