Wyee Community Hub

Thursday: 27 February – 9.30 am – 1.00 pm

Wyee Community Hub

The day commenced with an early start to Wyee so that we could be all set up and on site before too many started arriving for the Thursday Food Bank.  The area was all set up with stalls for the various foods, clothes and items.

We were directed to the end of the carpark on the grassed area next to the kitchen and unloaded the car and drove it into position.  After then moving the trailer out of the way the other vehicles that were to be on display arrived with their owners.  The cars were a collection of Fords and Holdens from the Ford and Holden car clubs in the area.  We enjoyed getting to know the folk that had brought their vehicles to display, before the day became too busy with people coming for the Food Bank at 9.30 am.  The faithful volunteers who put on the Food Bank each Thursday are to be commended for the amazing work and service they provide for the community.  While the attendance on Thursday was not a large as most weeks, they supplied many $10 food hampers and other food to those who are doing things tough as well as clothing, toys and other items.

People also came and interacted with our team as they looked at the car and were able to take “The Overlander” book with them. Many people also enjoyed seeing the condensed book (God’s Rescue Plan) that has been written by Allen Sonter from the themes of the book Nevill sold and also the potential for sharing the QR code cards for the Incredible Journey episodes on YouTube.   As it wasn’t quite as busy as some of the other venues, we were able to have more in depth conversations with those who interacted with us, with over 60 people engaging with the team members.

One of the highlights was also getting to know and hearing the experiences of one of the Holden Car Club couples – Allan and Beryl Howard.  Allan had worked with the racing teams at Bathurst in the times of Allan Moffat and Peter Brock.  He had assisted in the rebuild of the engine and as the mechanic for the team of Bruce McPhee in his Monaro in which he won the 1968 Bathurst Race.  Just as Nevill made history in a small Citroen in 1925, so we enjoyed hearing some of the history that Allan Howard was part of in the 1960’s.  It was good to share these stories of the past together and made us reflect on the hope that we can have for the future. Thank you Wyee Church and Community Hub for the event and for your service to the community.
