Speers Point Amateur Sailing Club Carpark Display
Setting Up for Success
We arrived at Speers Point ready to make an impact! The wind was bracing, which actually kept us energized as we secured the gazebo firmly against the fence along the carpark perimeter. Once we had the water pods safely attached to the gazebo uprights, we positioned Bubsie, our beloved vintage Overlander, in the carpark between the sailing club house and the walkway—the perfect spot to catch everyone’s attention.
A Special First Ride
Pastor Danny arrived at just the right moment and was absolutely delighted when we offered him a ride in Bubsie down the road before parking her under the gazebo. His enthusiasm and joy set a wonderful tone for the entire afternoon.
A Community Comes Together
Church members showed up to support us, and they did a fantastic job handing out copies of The Overlander to everyone passing by. Kevin and Pieter unhitched the car and headed to the shops to grab supplies, while the rest of us enjoyed engaging with curious and interested visitors.
When they returned and a crowd had gathered around the car, we were asked to do something special—crank Bubsie to life. Much to everyone’s delight and amazement, she started quickly and beautifully, proving that this vintage beauty still had plenty of spirit and personality. It was a thrilling moment for all of us!
Kevin and Glenda reconnected with many wonderful members from their time pastoring in the area, making the day about so much more than just showing off the car—it was a genuine opportunity to rebuild relationships with the community.
Making the Best of the Weather
The afternoon brought sunny skies and plenty of foot traffic from walkers enjoying the lakeside. As the hours passed, more people came out to see the display. The wind off the lake added character to the day, keeping the energy fresh and lively! We made a smart decision to move the trailer to form a wind break for the display area, which improved comfort and created an even better viewing space.
A Smooth Operation
As the afternoon drew to a close, we prepared to pack up, energized by all the positive interactions. Some wonderful folk arrived just in time, and several determined walkers stopped to watch as we expertly loaded the car into the trailer—a satisfying end to the display.
When the loaded car shifted slightly during loading, we quickly discovered the tow ball had come loose. No problem! We calmly and carefully unloaded Bubsie again, reconnected to the tow ball with extra care, and secured it properly. This kind of teamwork and problem-solving is what makes these events run smoothly.
A Beautiful Conclusion
Before we headed home, we gathered together with Pastor Danny for a moment of prayer—a perfect way to reflect on a successful day. Despite the lively wind off the lake, it had been exactly the kind of afternoon we’d hoped for: wonderful people, meaningful conversations, genuine community connection, and Bubsie running beautifully. What a blessing!
