Spontaneous Monday with Community Outreach
A Relaxed Morning
This morning offered a welcome change of pace with no early commitments. We used the time productively for reading, enjoying a leisurely breakfast, and catching up on laundry. Adelaide graced us with warm 27-degree weather and breezy conditions, perfect for quick-drying clothes.
Impromptu Display Setup
When church volunteers arrived to organize their Monday Food Pantry, we decided to set up Bubsie on display for their clients. While the volunteers arranged the food provisions, we prepared our exhibit so everything would be ready when people began arriving at 11 a.m.
Food Pantry Interaction
As clients received their numbers and waited their turn, many showed interest in examining Bubsie and engaged us in conversation. We recognized several visitors from last Thursday’s event, but also welcomed many new faces. The food pantry typically serves about 30 people during each session, though they occasionally accommodate up to 50. Brett and Sandra Palmer from The Grove church collaborate with the Elizabeth team to support this community service.
Quick Wrap-Up
The entire food pantry operation concluded efficiently within 30-40 minutes, after which the volunteers began their cleanup. We stored Bubsie away and connected her battery to charge. I then uploaded photos from today’s activities to our Facebook page.
Afternoon Outing
Later in the day, we walked to the Elizabeth Shopping Centre to handle some donation banking. While there, we unexpectedly encountered our team members Pieter and Veronica Raams, who were shopping and planning to visit the library. Upon returning to the church property, we discovered someone had locked the gate during our absence, leaving us temporarily without access since the Raams had the property key. After messaging them about our situation, we made productive use of the waiting time by relaxing under a tree, where I began drafting this blog post.
