Right Around Australia – Karalundi Farewell & Travel to Newman
Morning Worship and Chapel
Our final day at Karalundi began with Kevin leading the morning worship alongside John and the staff. We then gathered in the chapel, where we had the wonderful opportunity to share highlights from our travels and experiences with the students.
Museum Discovery
Following the chapel, we were granted special access to the school’s museum, which provided fascinating insights into Karalundi’s early history. Learning about the determination and persistence of local community members who worked tirelessly to reopen the school and maintain its high educational standards was truly inspiring.
Farewell Brunch
The students treated us to a delightful brunch gathering, showcasing once again what a genuinely happy and welcoming group they are. Their enthusiasm for hosting visitors was evident throughout the meal. As a special farewell gesture, we were each presented with a school polo shirt – the students’ excitement was palpable when Pieter stepped away to change into his shirt and returned wearing it proudly.
Heartwarming Departure
Saying goodbye to this beautiful location was bittersweet after such an enriching stay. The students made our departure extra special by gathering at the front gates to wave us off – a touching send-off that perfectly captured the warmth of the Karalundi community.
Journey to Newman
Our travel to Newman provided unexpected opportunities for connection. Along the way, we encountered two truck drivers who were keen to hear about our journey. Both were delighted to receive copies of the Overlander book as we shared our story with them.
We arrived at the Newman caravan park at 5 pm and settled in comfortably for our next chapter.
Reunion Connections
The evening brought pleasant surprises with several reconnections at the caravan park. We were delighted to meet up again with a couple we’d previously spoken with in Meekatharra, and we also encountered a gentleman with a special connection – he was the brother-in-law of one of Greg Davies’ nieces and was already aware of our launch celebration at Bickley the previous Sunday. These unexpected encounters continue to highlight the wonderful interconnectedness of the Australian community.
