Spreading Joy Through the Rain

Braving the Rain Together: Age Well Home, Latrobe
What a morning it was! We woke up to the gentle patter of steady rain on the roof, with little sign of it letting up all day. Our hearts were set on setting up a display on the main street in Latrobe, but with the rain falling softly and the streets quiet, we decided to be kind to ourselves and wait a little before wrestling the car out of the trailer — there was simply nowhere cosy to shelter the gazebo from the weather.
Instead, we made our way to the Aged Care home, and what a wonderful decision that turned out to be! Having that extra time to set up meant everything felt relaxed and unhurried. The lovely Lifestyle Coordinator for the day, Nick, was an absolute gem — jumping right in to help us push the car out of the trailer and tuck it snugly under the shelter at the main entrance.
Kevin then treated the residents to a warm and engaging PowerPoint presentation sharing the beautiful story of Nevill and Greg. You could feel the interest and curiosity in the room! And then came the highlight — the residents came outside to see the car up close, and their faces simply glowed with delight as they explored every little detail.

Glenda Rises to the Challenge!
When the time came to say our goodbyes, the wonderful Alex — another caring lifestyle worker — joined the team to help push the car back into the trailer. With the gentle slope of the driveway on our side, she slid in beautifully without even needing the winch. And our very own Glenda had a lovely new challenge to rise to — learning on the spot how to brake and steer the car into just the right position while the men pushed. She took to it like a natural!
We drove away from the home with full and grateful hearts, heading back into the rain. Our stop at Christmas Hill Raspberry Farm looked a little different to what we’d planned — but we treated ourselves to the most delicious lunch and made a lovely arrangement to visit again on a sunnier day. Then we set our sights on Port Sorell and our next visit — another cosy, undercover venue waiting to welcome us!

Warmth in Every Corner: Rubicon Grove Aged Care, Port Sorell

A Truly Lovely Welcome
We arrived a little early at Rubicon Grove Aged Care in Port Sorell and were immediately wrapped in the most generous welcome. A couple of the kind male staff members were right there to lend a hand unloading Bubsie — it’s always such a gift when people give so freely of their time and energy.
The staff lovingly gathered the residents around the car, and what followed felt less like a formal presentation and more like a big, warm family gathering. As we shared Bubsie’s story, the residents asked the most wonderful questions and leaned in with such genuine curiosity. Watching their eyes light up as they discovered her unique features was one of those moments you simply treasure.

New Friends and Growing Confidence
We were also blessed with a beautiful unexpected gift — the contact details for their sister institution in the North West, opening the door to yet another precious visit while we’re here in Tasmania. Every new connection feels like a little miracle!
The staff once again gathered around to help load Bubsie back into the trailer with the most cheerful willingness, and we are so proud to report that Glenda’s car-steering confidence is growing beautifully with every stop!

A Day Wrapped in Gratitude
As we reflected on the day, our hearts were simply full. Rain and all, this had been one of those days that reminds you why you started — a day woven through with laughter, connection, and genuine human warmth. It is the greatest privilege to carry Bubsie’s story out into the world and watch it touch people’s hearts, one visit at a time.
