A Wonderful Morning in Penguin
What a joy it was to make the drive over to Penguin this morning! We visited North West Christian School to set up a display and take the chapel periods for both the high school and primary school — and what a blessing it turned out to be.
Welcoming Us In
From the moment we arrived, we felt right at home. Pat, the school chaplain, came straight out to help us unload Bubsie, and together we wheeled her through the double doorway and into the chapel, setting her up front and centre in front of the stage. There’s always something special about watching people’s faces when they first see her!
High School Chapel — Questions & Conversations
Kevin led a PowerPoint presentation for the high school students, and it was wonderful to see their curiosity come alive. Afterwards, the students had plenty of questions — always a great sign! Each student went home with a copy of the Overlander book, and the teachers were equipped with some YouTube resources to continue the conversation in their classrooms.
Primary Chapel — Stories from the Road
The primary chapel had a slightly different flavour. While we did have some PowerPoint slides, the heart of the session was really in the storytelling — sharing tales from the trip together and bringing them to life for the younger ones. We talked about the young men’s perseverance, their heart to help others, and the encouragement we can all draw from pushing through when things get tough. It was a message that resonated across every age group in the room.
The Year 6 students and primary teachers each received a copy of the book, and the little ones in the early grades were delighted with some colouring sheets to take home.
Old Friends and Fond Memories
One of the unexpected highlights of the day was catching up with people we had known from our time living in Tasmania. There is something so warm and life-giving about reconnecting with familiar faces, and it reminded us just how wide and wonderful God’s family is. Before we headed off, we were also thrilled to get a photo of principal Morgan Smith alongside Bubsie — a great memento of the visit!
God’s Faithfulness on the Road
Our day wasn’t quite done yet! We made our way down to Sheffield to get Bubsie’s clutch attended to by a local mechanic. We had been praying about this, and it was such an encouragement to see God answer so clearly — the spare parts arrived that very morning, and the mechanic was able to get to work on her that afternoon. What a reminder that He really does care about every detail of this journey.
