A Spring Day in Singleton

Setting the Scene: Gazebos, Lego, and Sunshine
We travelled from Cooranbong to Singleton this morning, arriving to find the church had created a welcoming community space with two gazebos. One provided a shady spot for sitting and chatting, while the other served as a collection point for handout bags filled with information on healthy living, the Overlander, and other resources.
The setup was especially family-friendly – a container overflowing with Lego invited children to guess the number of pieces for a competition, and Bubsie colouring activities kept little hands busy. With school holidays in full swing, we had quite a few children enjoying the beautiful Spring day with their families.

Bubsie Steals the Show
We set Bubsie up and quickly attracted attention from the car club enthusiasts. Men from various car clubs gathered around to hear the story and collect the Overlander book. Some motorcycles roared in too – they had much more power than Bubsie!
Later in the day, a real gem arrived: a 1926 Austin 7 Chammy, 2 door Tourer. It looked much smaller than the Citroen, even though it had a back seat. Several of the men took extra books to share with their Citroen and car club members.

The Food Bank Ministry Opens Its Doors
At 12:30, the Food Bank ministry opened and community members began arriving. The word spread quickly – one person even called his brother, who came right over. Throughout the afternoon, there was a steady stream of people. The church had thoughtfully provided really yummy watermelons for everyone.
Children were especially drawn to the colouring activity, and their excitement doubled when they discovered they’d receive a matchbox car upon completion! A drink van offered free refreshments courtesy of the Singleton church to all visitors.

Wrapping Up a Successful Day
By 3 pm we had packed up everything. As a special treat, Kevin gave Pastor Christopher Petersen a ride in Bubsie as it was loaded onto the trailer. The congregation had done an excellent job advertising and promoting the display, and we’re very thankful for all their hard work.

Journey Home: Country Roads and Spring Blossoms
We then enjoyed the one-hour drive back to Cooranbong, taking in the beautiful country scenery. The spring growth was in full display, with blossoms decorating the landscape along the way – a perfect end to a wonderful day of community connection.
