Classic Car Show & BBQ | Riverland SA

Sunday: 27 April

A Community Show & Shine (your classic car) event & a BBQ @ Riverland SA

The day began early as vehicles started arriving at the venue around 8:30 AM, some towing trailers while others drove in under their own power. We positioned Bubsie in a prominent location and established our display area with a gazebo and information table. Our team efficiently distributed informational materials to attendees while various stations were set up around the grounds—including BBQ facilities, lunch counters, a pop-up book display, community organization exhibits, and refreshment stands.

A steady stream of vintage and classic automobiles continued arriving throughout the morning, ultimately showcasing 60 exceptional vehicles on the rear lawn area. The combined estimated value of the automotive collection on display reached approximately $4.5 million.

Weather conditions were ideal for the event, providing perfect opportunities to connect with enthusiasts, admire their prized vehicles, and share Bubsie’s remarkable story.

At approximately 11:30 AM, Kevin Amos delivered a presentation in the main hall documenting the vehicle restoration process with detailed photographs, attracting an audience of about 50 interested attendees. This was followed by an account of the historic first journey around Australia.

Visitors enjoyed complimentary refreshments including sausage sandwiches, salad rolls, and desserts. All food, beverages, and literature were provided free of charge.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Graham Tyler, who performed significant restoration work alongside Colin and Warren. We captured photographs of Graham in the vehicle he meticulously restored. Gary Kent formally thanked Graham and the other craftsmen involved in the restoration project and also had the opportunity to be photographed with Bubsie.

Graham and Jean Wynniart provided us with a tour of the community food bank that operates from the Genesis Building every Wednesday morning.

As the event concluded, we dismantled our displays and secured Bubsie on an open trailer for transport to the Barossa Valley on Monday. The enclosed trailer will rejoin us in a few days once its modifications are completed.

We assisted Rita, the literature coordinator, in disassembling her gazebo and packing her vehicle.
Our sincere appreciation goes to the entire community and all volunteers who contributed to making this event truly successful. Thank you for your hospitality in providing accommodations and for partnering with us in sharing Bubsie’s journey across Australia.
