A Display with the residents @ Nurioootpa SA

Our vintage vehicle outreach program reached another milestone this week as Bubsie made her debut in the Barossa region. The morning began with Pieter and Veronica Raams arriving in Riverland to collect our cherished vintage car. After securing Bubsie to their trailer and coordinating with Peter Howard and Rita from our literature program, we set off just after 9:00 AM.

The journey to Nuriootpa went smoothly, with a quick refuelling stop at Truro before arriving around 11:00 AM. David Fletcher and Paul, a local community member, welcomed us warmly. We parked our van at the community center and transferred Bubsie to our vehicle while Pieter returned to Monash to collect his van.

Following a brief lunch break and handling some administrative matters, we proceeded to the Barossa Village for our afternoon presentation. The staff had thoughtfully prepared a space for us, laying down a protective tarpaulin for Bubsie’s indoor display. Veronica finally got her long-awaited ride in the vintage automobile before we positioned it for the residents to enjoy.

The event proved to be remarkably engaging. Staff members brought residents into the common room where we distributed informational materials about the car’s history. The personal interactions were particularly meaningful—many residents shared their own memories of similar vehicles from their past, creating a wonderful atmosphere of nostalgia and connection.

Once everyone had gathered, Kevin presented Bubsie’s story to an appreciative audience. Afterward, we carefully moved the car outside to avoid exhaust fumes in the enclosed space, where David enjoyed a short ride back to the trailer.

With Bubsie securely loaded once again, we returned to the community center and prepared for our next engagement just across the road, continuing our journey of bringing joy and memories to the Barossa community.

A community display with Students @ Nurioootpa SA

Following our senior center visit, we positioned Bubsie at a strategic community location. Paul joined Kevin in the vintage car as they carefully navigated across the main thoroughfare to a grassy area near the traffic signals—perfectly situated opposite Nuriootpa High School just as students were ending their day.

As students crossed at the pedestrian crossing, we greeted them and offered QR code cards and informational materials about the vehicle. Parents waiting in nearby parking spots also showed interest, many taking photos as we arranged the display. Several students demonstrated particular enthusiasm for the vintage automobile, with some even requesting additional materials to share with grandparents who have restoration interests.

Once the after-school rush subsided, we transported Bubsie back to our base and secured her on the trailer in preparation for the following day’s activities.

The remainder of the afternoon was dedicated to documentation—uploading photographs and updating our online presence. Veronica took advantage of the downtime for a refreshing walk, while Pieter was en route from Monash with their van, slightly delayed by the need to acquire an additional adapter plug for the vehicle, as we were using his original one for Bubsie’s trailer.
