Right Around Australia – Broome Community Day

Morning Worship
We enjoyed a wonderful morning of worship with the Broome church community. Kevin provided an engaging update on our journey’s progress, while Roger delivered a thought-provoking sermon titled “Are we there yet?” – challenging attendees to reflect on their life goals and destinations. Bubsie was proudly displayed in the church foyer, drawing admiring glances from congregation members. The pastor offered a special prayer for our continued travels, which was deeply appreciated by our entire team.

Town Beach Picnic
After lunch, we gathered for a combined picnic at the picturesque Town Beach. The location proved perfect, with a gentle breeze keeping everyone comfortable while we enjoyed good food and fellowship. Bubsie continued to attract curious sightseers who were drawn to learn more about our vintage car and historic journey.

Town Photography Session
Following the picnic, we took Bubsie for a drive through town, capturing photographs near historic buildings, including the charming old outdoor picture theatre. These shots will add wonderful local flavour to our documentation of the journey.

Special Family Connection
The afternoon brought an incredibly meaningful encounter when we welcomed descendants of Nevill Westwood to view Bubsie. Nevill’s great-grandson, Jarrad, arrived in Broome from Perth with his wife Gemma and baby Blake, having followed our journey and understanding the historical significance of the original Bubsie story.

Both Jarrad and Gemma thoroughly enjoyed taking rides in the car, experiencing firsthand the vehicle that has become such an important part of their family’s legacy. A particularly touching moment occurred when Kevin facilitated a FaceTime call with Natalie, Jarrad’s mother and Nevill’s granddaughter. She was only two years old when Nevill passed away, making this connection even more poignant.

We were also visited by Ralph Hibble, who had worked with Ron Westwood in restoring the original Bubsie and had travelled with him in it across Australia.

Continuing Legacy
Natalie expressed her delight in learning about the lasting impact of Nevill’s original trip on remote communities and how our 2025 journey continues to inspire people as we retell their remarkable stories. These family connections remind us of the deeper purpose behind our travels and the importance of preserving and sharing this incredible piece of Australian history.

Special Archival Images
Ralph Hibble has been kind enough to provide some historical communications regarding the final destination of the original ‘Bubsie’ vehicle used by Nevill Westwood.
