Right Around Australia – Derby Burgers and Display
Pre-Dawn Departure
Our day began with an early start, with the team departing just before 6:30 am to head for the fuel station at Roebuck Downs. The morning sunrise painted the horizon with warming rays, creating a beautiful start to our journey despite the early hour. After filling up all vehicles – resulting in an eye-watering fuel bill exceeding $1000 – we continued our journey toward Derby.
Warm Welcome in Derby
Bev and Gavin were already waiting for our arrival in Derby, ready to help us set up for the day’s activities. We positioned Bubsie on display along the footpath outside the church, and almost immediately a continuous stream of curious visitors began stopping to learn about our journey.
Community Presentation
Kevin delivered an engaging talk accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation to a group of attendees, sharing the story of our adventure and the historical significance of Nevill Westwood’s original journey.
Popular Burger Service
The famous “No Bull Burgers” proved to be in high demand, with team members pitching in to help serve anyone who wanted one. The delicious burgers created a welcoming atmosphere that drew even more people to our display.
Afternoon Decision
By 1:30 pm our display activities had concluded successfully. With the afternoon still ahead of us, we made the decision to continue traveling to Fitzroy Crossing for tonight’s camping location.
Evening Setup
We arrived in Fitzroy Crossing at 5:30 pm and efficiently set up camp for the night. The evening was spent examining maps and planning potential stops for the next two nights, ensuring we stay on track for our continuing journey across this remarkable region of Australia.
The combination of community engagement in Derby and progress toward our next destinations made for another productive day on the road.
