Community display (& Trailer modifications) @ Barmera SA
After Bubsie’s service was completed, we received a call from Warren May this morning confirming she was ready for a test drive to evaluate her performance. With my schedule full of administrative tasks, Kevin partnered with Peter Howard for a trip to Barmera to collect Bubsie.
While there, they checked on the progress of Bubsie’s trailer’s redesigned back door, which is being converted to a drop-down door with a built-in ramp. They then drove Bubsie through downtown Barmera and to Lake Bonney’s waterfront. Finding the lakefront relatively quiet, they relocated near a small mobile coffee stand, quickly attracting interested people passing by.
Despite being a small team of just two, they engaged with numerous visitors and distributed copies of “The Overlander” book. Their busy conversations with community members prevented them from documenting the interactions with photos.
After the crowd dispersed, they repositioned Bubsie to the central lawn area opposite the supermarket, parking along the pedestrian walkway for maximum visibility. They continued conversing with people passing by, sharing information about the upcoming Show and Shine Day in Berri on Sunday. Some visitors were from locations on our upcoming itinerary, allowing Kevin and Peter to inform them about our future visits to their areas.
After distributing approximately 25 books during the morning outreach, they returned Bubsie to the workshop and then returned to Berri.
In the evening, our team gathered at Warren and Desiree May’s home in Woolpunda for dinner. The gathering included Pieter and Veronica Raams, Kevin and Glenda Amos, and Peter Howard from the Riverland. We used this opportunity to review our plans for the upcoming month, clarify expectations, and discuss tentative events. Desiree prepared an excellent meal that everyone enjoyed.
