Warrina Lakes Complex Display, Innisfail – Right Around Australia Project

Journey Through North Queensland
After bidding farewell to Kevin and Glenda at the Riverside campgrounds, the team travelled to Townsville’s outskirts to collect donated spare rims and tyres for Bubsie’s trailer, generously provided by Frank’s friend Bob. Following a brief refreshment stop at Cardwell, the journey continued toward Innisfail through spectacular North Queensland scenery.

The route showcased the region’s agricultural diversity, with majestic mountain ranges to the left and lush green sugar cane fields and grasslands stretching across the well-irrigated landscape. The appearance of banana plantations signalled proximity to the destination, creating anticipation for the day’s activities.

Warrina Lakes Complex Display Setup
Arriving at the Innisfail church just after midday, the team unhitched caravans and prepared for transportation to the Warrina Lakes Complex display venue. The setting proved absolutely stunning, with Bubsie positioned prominently under a magnificent large tree that provided both shade and an impressive natural backdrop.

Community Engagement and Activities
Community response exceeded expectations, with numerous local residents visiting throughout the afternoon. A special highlight was the complimentary mini train rides provided for children, funded by the local Innisfail church in honour of Bubsie’s visit, creating additional family entertainment and engagement opportunities.

The community group established a comprehensive resource station featuring free clothing from Thread Together, bottled water, and educational books, ensuring every visitor departed with at least one publication.

Event Success and Community Response
The event’s success was evident in its natural extension beyond the scheduled 5:00 PM conclusion, with the team remaining an additional thirty minutes to accommodate continuing arrivals. The intergenerational appeal was remarkable, with both young and elderly community members expressing genuine appreciation for this unique historical and educational opportunity in their local area.
