The Falls Teahouse, Millaa Millaa
As we departed from Innisfail, ominous clouds loomed overhead, hinting at possible rain. However, as we ascended the steep mountain, the sky transformed into a clear blue canvas.
Bubsie on Display
We took a moment to polish Bubsie before positioning her in front of the charming Falls Teahouse, located just outside the scenic town of Millaa Millaa. The teahouse attracted a steady stream of visitors, many of whom stopped by to admire Bubsie or enjoy a morning tea before heading out.
A Delightful Morning Tea
Before we moved on to our next event, we were graciously treated to a delicious morning tea by our wonderful hostess, Estelle. Her hospitality made our visit even more enjoyable. Thank you, Estelle!

Eacham Place, Malanda
Arriving at the Malanda community hall just off the town centre, we discovered a small crowd eagerly awaiting Bubsie’s arrival.
Family Reunion
Among the first to greet us were Beth Auer (née Westwood) and her daughter Deanne Mossman, third and fourth cousins of Nevill Westwood. Their enthusiasm made this stop especially memorable.
Local Press Coverage
Our visit was featured in last week’s edition of The Express, the free newspaper serving the Tablelands region. Beth and Deanne read the article and were excited to join the event.
A Special Drive
After sharing stories and packing away our materials, we surprised Beth with a short drive around the block in Bubsie—a fitting highlight of our time in Malanda.

Herberton Historic Village
After ascending even higher into the mountains, we arrived at our final destination for the day: the Herberton Historic Village. Nestled among the peaks, this charming historic site provided a perfect backdrop for Bubsie’s appearance.
Family Reunion Continues
Waiting for us was Beryl Loudon (née Westwood), Beth’s younger sister and also a third cousin to Nevill Westwood. Beryl was delighted to join us for a short ride around the car park in Bubsie, continuing the day’s family connections.
Community Engagement
Visitors to the historic village were eager to see Bubsie, capturing the moment with numerous photos and picking up informational books. The children in attendance were each given a QR-coded nature card, adding an interactive element to their experience.
A Day to Remember
From the scenic drive to the meaningful family encounters and the enthusiastic community response, today was truly an exciting and fascinating journey.
