Right Around Australia – Mullewa to Moora Adventure

Morning Departure to Mullewa
We departed Geraldton just before 9 am, heading for Mullewa, where we had arranged to meet Peter Laws at the Shire building for a town display in the local park. Both parties arrived punctually at 10 am, and we quickly unloaded Bubsie onto the grassed area, ready for our community display.

A Helpful Suggestion
While the initial location had potential, one of the local community members drove into the car park and offered some valuable local insight. They suggested we would attract more interest by relocating to the football field at the Recreation Centre, where a full day of games was scheduled, starting with younger children and progressing through various age levels.

Strategic Relocation
Roger drove Bubsie to the Recreation Centre with Peter leading the way on his motorbike, while Kevin and Glenda repacked the gazebo and followed with the trailer. After consulting with one of the coaches, we positioned the car on the opposite side of the building where foot traffic was heavier.

Working Around the Game Schedule
During the children’s matches, most parents and relatives were understandably focused on watching the games. Kevin and Glenda took a proactive approach, circulating the oval with information books, distributing them to adults and inviting them to visit the car display when the various matches concluded.

Engaging Families and Fans
As games wrapped up, we welcomed children who brought their parents and guardians over for photos, along with numerous adults who showed genuine interest in the car. We distributed QR code cards and children’s activity sheets, ensuring everyone could take home something to remember the visit. Our sincere thanks go to Peter for arranging this display opportunity in Mullewa.

Journey to Moora
By 1:30 pm, we had packed up and reloaded, setting off for our evening destination of Moora. We made a delightful lunch stop in Mingenew, discovering a particularly excellent bakery that provided the perfect mid-journey refreshment.

Scenic Route Observations
The drive offered fascinating glimpses of the region’s agricultural landscape, with grain crops just emerging from the soil. We were also treated to the impressive sight of trains transporting high-grade iron ore toward Geraldton, showcasing the area’s diverse primary industries.

Historic Tractor Photo Stop
We made an additional stop in Carnamah to capture some special footage and photographs of Bubsie alongside a Chamberlain, a huge model 40K Tractor, creating a wonderful historical contrast of automobile & agriculture innovation.

Warm Welcome in Moora
Arriving in Moora at 5:00 pm, we found Dr Bernard Chapman waiting for us at the caravan park. We unloaded Bubsie for him to examine, and several campers also gathered around, clearly excited to see the vintage car. After reloading and checking into our accommodation cabin, we caught up on emails before heading to Dr Bernard and Julia Chapman’s home.

Evening Fellowship
The day concluded perfectly with a shared evening meal at the Chapmans’ home, filled with wonderful conversation and the kind of warm hospitality that makes these journeys so memorable. These personal connections remind us that the Right Around Australia project is as much about the people we meet as it is about the places we visit.
