Travel and Charters Towers Display – Right Around Australia Project

Charters Towers Unexpected Display

Another stunning outback sunrise accompanied the team’s departure toward Townsville, with an unplanned but welcome stop at Charters Towers’ Columbia Poppet Head Rest Area. Local community member Rae Page contacted the team en route and promoted the impromptu display through local social media channels.

The grassroots promotion generated significant interest, with numerous visitors stopping to photograph Bubsie and collect books. Word spread quickly through the community, attracting Orvon and Miriam Gough from CT Network, a local media company, who filmed the display and conducted an interview with Kevin.

After enjoying lunch at the scenic rest area, the team continued their journey to Townsville, establishing a base at the Aitkenvale campground. The afternoon provided essential maintenance opportunities, with Bubsie receiving a thorough wash while Kevin and Frank sourced and installed replacement shackle bushes for the trailer.

The Townsville arrival offered welcome practical benefits, including much-needed laundry facilities and rest time, allowing the team to prepare for the busy weekend schedule ahead. The unexpected Charters Towers display demonstrated the project’s growing community awareness and the value of local connections in expanding outreach opportunities.
