Richmond Display @ Kronosaurus Korner

Another clear, brisk morning marked the team’s 8 AM departure for Richmond, successfully navigating the challenging road conditions to reach the information centre display location. Kronosaurus Korner’s bustling atmosphere, with tourists and locals enjoying meals and photographing the dinosaur exhibits, provided excellent opportunities to share Nevill and Bubsie’s story.

A highlight emerged when one visitor demonstrated the crank-start process to his children, creating an educational moment about historical automotive technology. The team strategically refuelled at Richmond to avoid higher fuel costs en route to Townsville.

Glenda utilised the stop to participate in a TIJ board meeting via Zoom, maintaining Starlink connectivity by keeping the vehicle engine running. Meanwhile, team members prepared additional promotional materials, filling another book box with informational leaflets for upcoming displays.

Hughenden Display

Continuing the journey toward Townsville, the team’s next destination was Hughenden, where the Flinders Discovery Centre served as an ideal display location coordinated with the local council. The venue’s focus on dinosaurs and fossils provided perfect thematic alignment with Bubsie’s historical significance.

Visitor engagement varied from brief, curious glances to extended conversations, with nearly all attendees accepting copies of “The Overlander” book. The display gained momentum when a council representative arrived, demonstrating genuine enthusiasm for Bubsie’s visit.

Her immediate documentation through photography and promotion via the community Facebook page encouraged additional local residents and school children to visit the display. After a productive day of community engagement, the team retired to the caravan park in preparation for the substantial travel day ahead to Townsville.
