School & Community Displays | Mackay Qld
Thursday: 7 August
Carlisle Adventist College – Primary
Educational Venue Setup
Following overnight accommodation at Central Church, the team transported Bubsie to the northern Mackay area for presentations at Carlisle College. The day was structured with separate sessions targeting different age groups for optimal educational delivery.
Structured Presentation Schedule
The program commenced with upper primary students (grades 4-6) during the morning session, followed by lower primary students (prep to grade 3) after lunch. Each group participated in chapel presentations before engaging with Bubsie directly for hands-on experience.
Strong Educational Engagement
Both teaching staff and students demonstrated exceptional interest in Bubsie’s story, with Kevin’s historical presentation capturing sustained attention throughout both sessions. The interactive question periods revealed genuine curiosity about both the vehicle’s mechanics and the centenary journey’s significance.
Interactive Learning Features
Students showed particular fascination with Bubsie’s distinctive horn and hand-crank starting mechanism, providing tangible connections to historical transportation methods. These hands-on elements effectively bridged the century gap between past and present automotive technology.
Positive Educational Impact
The emotional connection evident in students’ reluctance to conclude the sessions indicated successful educational engagement. The day’s success with primary students established strong anticipation for tomorrow’s secondary school presentations.

ADRA Op Shop Display
Spontaneous Opportunity Recognition
With significant daylight remaining after the school presentations, team members identified an additional outreach opportunity by positioning Bubsie near the ADRA Op Shop entrance at Central Church. This impromptu setup demonstrated flexible scheduling to maximise community exposure.
Efficient Resource Distribution
Despite the unplanned nature of the display, the brief session generated substantial interest, resulting in the distribution of ten “The Overlander” books, two “God’s Rescue Plan” books, and multiple QR-coded information cards. These numbers indicated effective positioning and timing.
Strategic Location Benefits
The op shop entrance provided natural foot traffic from shoppers and community members, creating organic engagement opportunities without requiring extensive promotional efforts. This accessibility proved ideal for brief but meaningful interactions.
Extended Outreach Philosophy
The decision to establish this additional display reflected the team’s commitment to maximising community connection opportunities whenever circumstances permit. This proactive approach consistently yields unexpected but valuable engagement results throughout the journey.
