A Wonderful Day at Hilliard Christian School
What a joy it was to pull into Hilliard Christian School after our drive from New Norfolk! We arrived around 9:30 am, and the excitement was already in the air. After checking in, we carefully unloaded our beloved Bubsie in the carpark and gave Carly — a chaplain on placement at the school — a ride down to the display area outside the gymnasium. Bubsie’s trailer was then nestled perfectly on the roundabout in the drive and drop-off area, ready to welcome curious eyes!
Curious Minds and Little Hearts
It wasn’t long before the students came flocking! A lively Grade 7 class arrived with sharp minds and even sharper questions — they dove straight into the maths behind Bubsie’s fuel consumption and mileage, impressing us with their enthusiasm. Then came the gorgeous pre-kindy children, their eyes wide with wonder at the sight of the little car. There is truly something magical about seeing Bubsie through the eyes of a child!
A Meaningful Chapel Moment
One of the highlights of the day was sharing chapel time with the senior school. We had the privilege of sharing our story with the students, and the room was filled with warmth and thoughtful engagement. We invited the students to reflect on a meaningful question: If you were setting out on a great journey, what one unique luxury item — not a survival item — would you bring along? The responses were creative, funny, and deeply personal — a beautiful reminder of how each young person sees the world in their own unique way.
An Afternoon Full of Discovery
After chapel, the afternoon buzzed with energy as more class groups made their way out to explore Bubsie’s many interesting features. It was such a delight to watch students (and teachers!) discover the little details that make her so special.
Farewells and Family Moments
As the school day drew to a close, Bubsie was moved back to the roundabout — right where parents could spot her during pick-up time. It made for some wonderful spontaneous conversations! We were also thrilled that Ben Ashby, the school chaplain, jumped at the chance to take a ride in Bubsie. His joy was contagious, and it was a perfect way to end a truly special day.
We’ll Be Back Tomorrow!
The fun isn’t over yet — Bubsie will be back on show tomorrow for the Junior School and more class groups. We can’t wait to see more bright faces and share more of the journey. Stay tuned!
