Travel Day: From Eucla to Shelly Beach, Ceduna – Adventures on the Nullarbor
Chasing the Sunrise Together
Another beautiful dawn greeted us this morning! There’s something magical about waking up with the sun on the Nullarbor – it feels like the whole world is fresh and full of possibility. We’ve been so grateful for the cooler weather lately; it’s made our travels absolutely delightful, and honestly, we couldn’t have asked for better conditions.
We kept things wonderfully simple today, sharing breakfast and lunch together as the open road stretched endlessly before us – just us, the horizon, and the gentle hum of the wheels beneath.
Bubsie Brings Joy at Nullarbor
Oh, what a heartwarming surprise our Nullarbor stop turned out to be! The moment we pulled in for a break, the kindest people started gathering around with such genuine curiosity and interest. Their enthusiasm was absolutely infectious! We just had to bring Bubsie out for a little ride, and the smiles on everyone’s faces made our hearts sing.
Before long, we were all laughing and chatting, taking photos of the beloved whale sculpture and those charming wildlife signs. It felt like making instant friends! We were thrilled to share about a dozen Overlander books and cards with these wonderful fellow travelers. When even the roadhouse manager came out with his camera, grinning from ear to ear – well, that just made our day complete! These precious connections with strangers-turned-friends are the moments we’ll treasure forever.
A Smooth Crossing into South Australia
The quarantine checkpoint at Ceduna was a breeze, thanks to our thoughtful preparation the evening before. We’d spent such a cozy night cooking up all our vegetables together – waste not, – and it paid off beautifully.
Love, Laughter, and Ocean Breezes
Our hearts were full watching Warren and Desiree light up as they reconnected with their dear relatives in Ceduna. There’s something so special about these surprise reunions on the road – they remind us that home isn’t just a place, it’s the people we love.
After settling into our lovely spot at Shelly Beach Caravan Park, we treated ourselves to the most peaceful evening walk along the shore. Feeling the soft sand beneath our feet, listening to the gentle waves, and breathing in that glorious salty air after a long day of driving – pure bliss! As the sun began to set, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for another incredible day on this journey of a lifetime.
Sweet dreams from Shelly Beach!
