A Very Special Morning at OneCare Westgrove Aged Care Home
We arrived at Westgrove Home a little early — and what a blessing that turned out to be! The extra time was just what we needed to get everything set up smoothly after we were redirected to a different driveway, where we could unload our beloved Bubsie and drive her down into the corridor on Level 2 through the grand double glass doors.
Finding the Perfect Spot
Once inside, we were able to get Bubsie beautifully positioned, and then Kevin took to the floor, sharing her wonderful story with the residents who had gathered in the dining lounge area. There was such a lovely atmosphere in the room!
Precious Moments with Residents
While Kevin presented, some of the incredibly caring staff and visiting family members stepped in to escort individual residents over to meet Bubsie up close — and to capture those special moments in photos. Two encounters in particular truly stole our hearts:
- A photo with Joyce — who, just like Bubsie, is a remarkable 103 years young!
- A photo with Ivor, born in 1925 — the very year Bubsie circumnavigated Australia! What an extraordinary connection across the decades.
A Blessing in More Ways Than One
After Kevin’s presentation, everyone had the chance to come and see Bubsie for themselves and have their photos taken. And we were especially grateful to be indoors — because outside, the rain had well and truly begun to set in! The staff were absolutely wonderful in helping us guide Bubsie back out through the doors before we reloaded and headed off to our next stop.
It had been a truly great morning.
Shelter and Surprises at the Wonders of Wynyard Exhibition
That afternoon, we had the joy of being invited to display outside the Wonders of Wynyard Exhibition from 2 to 4pm — and they had kindly spread the word on Facebook beforehand!
A Cosy Spot Under Cover
With the afternoon turning wet and grey, it was such a relief — and delight — to have Bubsie tucked safely under the cover of the exhibition’s verandah. A lovely stream of visitors who had spotted the Facebook post came by especially to see her. It warmed our hearts every time!
Generosity That Went Above and Beyond
Susan from the museum, who had so warmly extended the original invitation to us, went out of her way to make us feel welcome. She invited us to tour the exhibition and explore some of the truly incredible vehicles that once formed part of Francis Ransley’s magnificent restoration collection — jaw-dropping pieces of history!
And as if that wasn’t enough, Susan gifted us with Wynyard caps and lapel badges. Her genuine enthusiasm for historic vehicles and her generous spirit made the whole visit feel extra special. We are so grateful for her warmth and hospitality.
What a day of connections, history, and heartwarming moments — all centered around our wonderful Bubsie!
