An Unforgettable Day at Noreuil Park, Albury
The alarm went off early, but we didn’t mind one bit! By 7 AM, we were on the road, excitement building as we headed toward Albury. When we pulled up to the church, it was like stepping into a beehive of happy activity—volunteers everywhere, preparing for what promised to be an amazing day at the park.
We quickly got our caravans settled with power connected, then headed straight to Noreuil Park with Bubsie. The anticipation was electric!

A Cavalcade of Classics
As we unpacked, something magical started happening—classic cars began arriving, one beautiful vintage vehicle after another, until seven stunning classics had gathered around Bubsie. Then came the highlight we’d been waiting for: Mayor Cr Kevin Mack arrived!
What happened next felt like something out of a movie. Bubsie, with the Mayor aboard, led a magnificent cavalcade of vintage, veteran, and classic cars on a lap of honour right through Albury’s CBD. Can you picture it? The rumble of classic engines, the turning of heads, the pure joy of celebrating automotive history through the heart of the city!

On the Airwaves
While the cavalcade was making its rounds, Glenda was having her own exciting moment—a live interview with Richard Campbell from 98.3 Albury-Wodonga, The Light FM! The radio station had set up right at the park, giving various displays a chance to share their stories with the community.
And here’s the beautiful part: later in the day, a lovely lady came specifically to see Bubsie because she’d heard about it on the radio! We were so grateful to the station for spreading the word and bringing people to the park.

Memories and Farewells
When the cavalcade returned, it was photo time! The Mayor, the drivers, and car club members gathered around, cameras clicking, smiles everywhere. We handed out copies of the Overlander story, and the three Citroëns posed together for a special shot—what a moment!
The story never gets old. Every time we share it, we’re struck by the courage and determination of those men, traveling in conditions we can barely imagine today.
Around lunchtime, many of the classic cars headed off, but for us, the day was just heating up. We also said a bittersweet goodbye to our dear team member, Noel, who’d been expertly hauling the Bubsie trailer. He had to head back home to Morisset, and as we hugged him goodbye, we felt such gratitude for his dedication these past couple of weeks. Thank you, Noel!

Sharing History with the Community
We had a fascinating chat with Anthony Bunn, a reporter from The Border Mail, about the original expedition’s journey through Albury—the timing, the route, the challenges Nevill and his team faced. It’s always special when local media helps keep this piece of history alive.

A Park Full of Purpose
Bubsie found her spot under the gazebo, and the community started flowing in! The park had transformed into a vibrant hub of activity. There was something for everyone: a peaceful prayer gazebo, a Bible study area, health checks, Faith FM’s Strong Man challenge (always entertaining!), a sizzling burger van, and healthy food stalls offering both meals and take-home options.
Throughout the afternoon, we loved watching the different volunteer teams in action, each one serving the community with such heart. The conversations, the laughter, the connections being made—this is what community is all about.

Wrapping Up and Looking Ahead
As the sun began to set and stalls started packing up, we gave event organizer Russ Alsop a well-deserved ride in Bubsie before tucking her safely into the trailer. What a champion he’d been, coordinating such a wonderful day!
We followed Nick Chan, the school chaplain, over to Border Christian College to set up for tomorrow’s display. There’s something satisfying about preparing for the next adventure while today’s memories are still fresh.
Back at the church, we shared final farewells with the volunteers who were finishing cleanup and heading home. What a crew—tired but happy, knowing they’d made a difference.

The Perfect Ending
We settled our vans in for the night, and guess what? The food van team had saved us some burgers! As we sat together enjoying those delicious burgers, rehashing the day’s highlights and laughing about the little moments, we couldn’t help but feel deeply blessed.
Memories we’ll remember forever.
