Right Around Australia – Carnarvon Morning Display
A Perfect Start to the Day
We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful morning to wake up to in Carnarvon! While the temperature was considered cool by local standards, the promise of warm sunshine ahead had us all in great spirits. Starting the day with a peaceful walk along the scenic Gascoyne River was the perfect way to prepare for our busy schedule ahead.
School Reconnaissance
Roger joined Max on the school drop-off run, using the opportunity to meet with the school staff and scout out the best location for our afternoon presentation. This kind of planning always helps ensure everything runs smoothly for the students and teachers.
Civic Centre Display
We established our display outside the Carnarvon Civic & Visitor Information Centre, creating an accessible spot for the community to discover Bubsie’s story. The centre staff were wonderfully supportive, coming out to collect information books and take photographs for the local media coverage.
Steady Community Engagement
Throughout the morning, we enjoyed a consistent flow of visitors engaging with both the story and the car itself. There’s something special about these unhurried interactions where people can take their time to absorb the history and craftsmanship that Bubsie represents.
Familiar Faces
One of the delightful surprises of the morning was reconnecting with some folks we had first met back in Ceduna. These chance encounters remind us how far we’ve travelled and how the Right Around Australia project creates lasting connections across the country.
Afternoon Transition
After a successful morning and lunch break, we packed up our resources and prepared for the next phase of our Carnarvon visit. Roger took the opportunity to drive Bubsie directly to Carnarvon Christian School, while the support team followed with the car and trailer, ensuring everything was ready for our afternoon school presentation.

Strategic Setup
Upon arriving at the school, we checked in and found that Roger had already positioned Bubsie perfectly on the grass outside the large outdoor activity hall. His planning made all the difference for a smooth presentation setup.
Behind-the-Scenes Preparation
Roger efficiently manoeuvered the trailer around to the back of the school, positioning it near the hall for easy access to our safety bollards. These were quickly set up around the car to create a safe viewing area, while the AV program was prepared on the large screen inside the hall.
Engaging Presentation Format
All the classes gathered in the hall with their chairs as Kevin delivered the comprehensive story presentation. The setup allowed for a perfect combination of visual storytelling inside, followed by a hands-on experience with the actual car outside.
Hands-On Learning for Younger Students
The younger classes moved out to surround Bubsie, where Roger explained the car’s features and demonstrated the start-up process. The children’s eager questions showed their genuine fascination with this piece of automotive history. Parents began arriving early to view the car before collecting their children, adding to the community atmosphere.
Extended Learning Opportunity
The Year 3-6 students remained in the hall with Kevin for additional questions and deeper information about the car’s story. This age-appropriate approach ensured everyone received the right level of detail for their understanding and interest.
The Demonstration Drive
After the older students joined the group around Bubsie, Roger provided detailed explanations of the car’s features. The highlight came when Principal Stella Jinman joined Roger in the car for a demonstration drive across the school’s playing fields, much to the delight of the watching children.
Parent Engagement
Even as dismissal time arrived and children headed home, many parents chose to linger and learn more about the car. These extended conversations with adults often lead to the deepest discussions about restoration, history, and automotive craftsmanship.
Evening Exploration
After successfully reloading Bubsie into the trailer and returning to our accommodation, we took advantage of the remaining daylight to explore Carnarvon’s long jetty and its fascinating historical displays. These local discoveries add richness to our journey beyond just the car presentations.
A Complete Day
From morning civic display to afternoon school presentation and evening local exploration, our day in Carnarvon showcased the full spectrum of what makes the Right Around Australia project so rewarding – education, community engagement, and discovery of local heritage.
