Right Around Australia – Journey to Carnarvon – Stop over for filming in Bookara

Early Morning Departure
Roger, Kevin, and Glenda began their day with an early 6:30 am departure, setting off on the journey to Carnarvon. The early start gave them plenty of daylight hours to make good progress and enjoy the changing scenery along the way.

Historic Stop at Bookara
The team made a meaningful stop at Bookara, home to a significant piece of Western Australian history – the site of a church built in 1905, just a little older than Bubsie. This location provided the perfect backdrop for documenting Bubsie’s journey.

Filming Opportunity
Taking advantage of the historic setting, they unloaded Bubsie from the trailer and spent time capturing footage of the car against the beautiful tracks surrounding the old church site. These moments help preserve both automotive and local history.

Refuelling and Refreshments
The journey continued to Geraldton for a fuel stop, followed by a drive through to Northampton, where they enjoyed a well-deserved lunch break. These regular stops help break up the long driving distances and provide opportunities to connect with different communities.

Afternoon Progress
The afternoon brought continued travel with a brief rest stop at The Overlander – one of those classic roadhouse stops that are such an important part of Australian road trip culture.

Staying Connected
During stretches of the drive where a mobile signal was available, the team took the opportunity to catch up on emails and stay connected with supporters following their journey. Modern technology certainly helps with managing a project like this while on the road, something Nevill Westwood and Greg Davies never experienced; rather, they had to manage the isolation much of their journey.

Warm Welcome in Carnarvon
After a full day of travel, they arrived in Carnarvon at 6:00 pm to a wonderful welcome from Max Mapurisa, who generously opened his home to accommodate the team during their stay. This kind of hospitality from local supporters makes the Right Around Australia project possible and creates lasting friendships along the way.

Another Day, Another Adventure
Long travel days like this one are an essential part of bringing Bubsie’s story to communities across Australia. Each journey brings new landscapes, historic stops, and the anticipation of sharing the car’s remarkable story with eager new audiences.
