Library with ADRA Bus | Pakenham VIC

Thursday: 10 April 4:30pm – 7:30pm

Library display  with ADRA Bus – Pakenham VIC

We did not have a scheduled event until later in the afternoon, so we used the morning to catch up on administrative tasks, including writing reports, answering emails and messages, and planning upcoming activities.

We also had a phone call with a couple of team members who will be joining us in Queensland in July. We discussed their responsibilities and provided an update on the project’s progress.

Additionally, we began work on a presentation for a report to be delivered at the Lunch with Gary program, scheduled to take place at the Park Royal Monash on Sunday.

Around mid-afternoon, we departed for the event at the Pakenham Library. Upon arrival, we encountered a few logistical challenges, as the allocated area was blocked by a parked car, and the key provided did not work to unlock the gate. We decided to display the vehicle in a grassy area of the library’s parking lot instead, repositioning the trailer to utilise the signage.

Once set up, members of the ADRA bus team and the Follow Bless team could view the car, collect the informational materials, and have photos taken before the bus arrived. The two teams collaborate to provide community service, with the ADRA team managing the distribution of groceries and the Follow Bless team preparing and serving hot meals.

Throughout the evening, attendees were directed from the food bank services to the Bubsie display, where they could learn about the vehicle and receive “The Overlander” book and other resources.

At 5:30 PM, the Mayor of Cardinia, Cr Jack Kowarzik, arrived and expressed interest in the car, taking photos and even starting the engine. The local pastor, Ryan Vidot, was also present, engaging with the community members.

Over the course of the event, we distributed more than 70 informational books and materials. We were grateful for the meal provided by the dedicated teams and the assistance of various individuals who helped with lighting, directions, and setup.

Overall, it was a productive evening. It allowed us to share the vehicle’s story and connect with the community members accessing the valuable services offered by the ADRA and Follow Bless teams.
